Sewage Treatment Plant MBBR Based
Overview
Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) technology is one of the most efficient and reliable biological wastewater treatment processes for domestic sewage treatment. The process utilizes specially designed bio-media suspended in an aeration tank, providing a large surface area for microbial growth and ensuring efficient removal of organic pollutants. MBBR-based STPs are compact, energy-efficient, easy to operate, and suitable for residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial applications.
Treatment Process Flow
Screen Chamber → Collection Tank → Equalization Tank → MBBR Aeration Tank → Secondary Clarifier → Pressure Sand Filter → Activated Carbon Filter → Disinfection System → Treated Water Tank → Reuse / Discharge
MBBR Technology Advantages

High Surface Area Bio Media | Enhanced biological treatment |
Compact Footprint | Less space requirement |
High BOD/COD Removal | Superior treatment efficiency |
Shock Load Resistance | Stable operation during flow fluctuations |
Low Sludge Generation | Reduced sludge handling costs |
Easy Expansion | Capacity can be increased by adding media |
Low Maintenance | Simple operation and monitoring |
Typical Treated Water Quality
Parameter | Outlet Quality |
pH | 6.5 – 8.5 |
BOD | < 10 mg/L |
COD | < 50 mg/L |
TSS | < 10 mg/L |
Oil & Grease | < 5 mg/L |
(Subject to proper design and operation conditions.)
