Dissolved Air Floatation

Overview

A Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) System is a highly efficient solid-liquid separation technology used for the removal of suspended solids, oil & grease, fats, biological sludge, color, and other low-density contaminants from industrial wastewater. The process works by dissolving air into water under pressure and releasing it at atmospheric pressure to generate microbubbles that attach to contaminants and float them to the surface for removal.

DAF systems are widely used in ETP, STP, Food Processing, Dairy, Chemical, Textile, and Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plants.

Dissolved Air Floatation

Treatment Process Flow

Equalization Tank → Chemical Dosing (Coagulant & Flocculant) → Flocculation Tank → DAF System → Clarified Water Tank → Further Treatment / Discharge

Working Principle

The DAF system recirculates a portion of treated water through a pressurized saturation vessel where air is dissolved. When released into the flotation tank, microscopic air bubbles are formed. These bubbles attach to suspended particles, oil droplets, and flocs, causing them to float to the surface. The floating sludge is continuously removed by a mechanical skimmer while clarified water exits from the bottom of the unit.
